By now, you're familiar with Clearance Delivery and Ground in general with regard to non-Major facilities. Now, it's time to put those skills to use at a more complex airport. Since operations at Newark affect operations at LaGuardia and Kennedy and vice versa, things are much more regimented. What you do at Newark needs to be more controlled and will be through additional training. Exits become important as any "free-for-alls" need to be halted. Initial altitudes change and are based on operations at other facilities and affect those facilities. You'll learn at lot more and be tested harder here than that the outlying fields. If you're up to the challenge, follow the steps below.
BEFORE you carry out any training on this page, you must have:
1) Completed the training on the VATUSA S1 Training (DEL/GND) page.
Earning Ground Certification at Newark
1) Log into your Controller Panel and take the Newark Clearance Delivery SOP Class (#21) using the Flash Classes link.
2) Read and study the Clearance Delivery section of the Newark Facility SOP
3) Log into your Controller Panel and take the Newark Ground SOP Class (#22) using the Training Classes link.
4) Read and study the Ground section of the Newark Facility SOP.
5) Log into your Controller Panel and go to the "Testing Center" and click on "EWR Practice Clearances" to be taken to a set of practice clearances. Follow the instructions to submit your practice clearances. It is 20 questions. You must receive an 80 percent or better to pass. The test is graded manually, so please allow for 48 hours for the results.
6) After passing the clearances the FIRST time you will be certified to work Newark Ground. If you do not pass, you will either be directed to meet with an Instructor or Mentor before receiving the certification or you will be reassigned the test after 7 days.
Next Step - Earning Promotion to Newark Level 3: Tower
Spend time online and work the position. The Training Staff will observe you and help you learn Delivery and Ground like you never have before. Once that is complete, we'll look for you to advance and mark you as under Observation and then Ready For Testing (RFT).
In order to start working the Tower position at Newark Airport, you must:
1) Pass the ZNY Level 2 (DEL/GND) Basic ATC Test over voice with a NY instructor
2) Pass the ZNY Level 2 (DEL/GND) ZNY SOP Test over voice with a NY instructor
3) Pass the Newark Delivery/Ground SOP Test over voice with a NY instructor
Once you have passed the required tests, you'll begin your training to work Newark Tower.
